Cratfield Village Sign.
“Re-carved to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
This replaces the original, carved to commemorate the Silver Jubilee in 1977 by Ivor Roberts-Jones.
The sign depicts the four Parish Greens: Bell Green, Swan Green, Silverleys & North Green
This carving was made by The Essex Woodcarvers Group, who had spent many happy hours in Cratfield, over the years and were pleased and proud to have been asked.

Cratfield is spread over several greens. Most of the buildings are around Bell Green, the ‘main road’ through Cratfield. Then there is North Green (also known as Northward or Norwood Green), Silverleys Green, Swan Green, and apparently there was a fifth green. In 1783 it was called Barrile Green and now it is the Spong, a small green on Spong Lane.
