"Getting her dressed for the Calenda" -- Oaxaca, Mexico

This couple was busy getting her dressed in all the accoutrements of her indigenous dress just outside Our Lady of Solitude church in Oaxaca. After a Mass to celebrate the first of the Nine Days of Christmas, the flower-carriers, dancers, and live brass band left in a Calenda (parade) to a nearby neighborhood where two local children replicated the plight of Mary & Joseph, going door to door asking (via song) for a place to stay and being turned away (via a responsive song). Finally, at the home of the block's godparents, they are given shelter and a celebratory block party commences, with pinatas, dancing, singing, and live music long into the night...
